Monchovader Awards 2003 - Nominados

Aún no tengo los nominados finales de los del 2009, pero al poner los del 2003 es un ejemplo de lo que podrán ver en el Monchovader Awards 2009, con todas las categorías que se manejarán. Después de que ponga los nominados y ganadores del 2009 (dentro de algunas semanas), ire poniendo poco a poco los del 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 y 2008. Los del 2002, 2001 y 2000 se me hacen difíciles por la poca cantidad de películas vistas, así como el tiempo ya algo distante para acordarme de ciertos detalles. Mientras tanto he aquí los nominados del 2003. Espero que opinen y comenten que fue lo mejor para ustedes en ese año.

Crítica How to Train Your Dragon

DreamWorks es la competencia más directa de Disney/Pixar, que como sabemos estos últimos son los amos incuestionables de la animación; no desde el punto de vista tecnico, si no en argumento y originalidad. El mejor trabajo que encumbró al estudio del pescador ha sido Shrek (hilarante, gran historia e inolvidables personajes), por el cual ganó el Oscar. De ahi en fuera nos han entregado varias cintas que van del argumento simple y chistes gastados (Madagascar, Monster vs Aliens, Shark Tale -la peor que pudieron haber hecho-, Bee Movie, Shrek The Third, Simbad y Spirit: el corcel indomable) a películas con un mejor humor e historia interesante (Kung Fu Panda, Over the Hedge y El Principe de Egipto).

Este año DreamWorks vuelve a la carga con una gran película. Si bien la historia suena como si ya la hubieramos percibido antes (dos seres distintos entre si entablan una amistad difícil de entender que los llevará a cambiar su destino y el de los demás), es el desarrollo de la misma lo que vale. La película es un viaje por la historia de los vikingos, por paisajes animados deslumbrantes, por personajes perfectamente construidos, y todo esto acompañado por una partitura de John Powell espectacular. Los chistes son inteligentes y van de la mano con la trama, la historia no se siente forzada y al contrario, pareciera auténtica. El final es uno de los más arriesgados que he visto en cintas de este tipo (lo digo por el personaje principal), pero es un detalle que se agradece y que le va bien a la historia. La cinta es muy entretenida, con ritmo ágil y con una animación vistoza que no le pide nada a nadie.

Disney/Pixar está en "crisis creativa" y DreamWorks retoma el camino para hacer películas que valen la pena. Yo solo pido buenas películas.

Lo Mejor: la animación, la música de John Powell y el arriesgado final del personaje principal.
Lo Peor: a simple vista nada, pero al adentrarnos nos damos cuenta de que el argumento en el fondo no es muy original.

No es la mejor ni la peor de Scorsese. Es un buen ejercicio de suspenso de uno de los mejores directores norteamericanos vivos de todos los tiempos. Se especulaba que el retraso (originalmente se estrenaría en Octubre del año pasado) era por ser una mala película, pero no es así. Digamos que no es afortunada en ciertos aspectos, pero que en el conjunto estamos viendo una obra interesante digna de ver.

Empezaré diciendo la malo de la película. El final se vuelve predecible, pero entre la formulación de un posible final acertado queda la incertidumbre de más, y eso hace que no se vuelva de todo un mal desenlace. Alguno personajes que si son pate fundamental para la trama se sienten desubicados y no se aprovechan como deben ser, tal es el caso de los personajes de Mark Ruffalo y Max von Sydow. La musica pudo haber sido mejor, pero el elevado volumen hacia que no se apreciara del todo algunas escenas.

Ahora si, lo bueno. Los ambientes y situaciones de suspenso que logra manejar y sabe llevar con mucha maestría Martin Scorsese. La impecable labor de fotografía y montaje, las muy correctas actuaciones de Michelle Williams y Patricia Clarkson, y la espléndida actuación de un Leonado DiCaptrio que ha demostrado ya con creces que no sólo es una cara bonita, y que se le puede considerar uno de los mejores actores jovenes de los tiempos actuales. En general estamos ante una película entretenida y sostenible de principio a fin, con argumento interesante y descenlace un tanto predecible pero correcto.

Lo Mejor: La actuación de Leonardo DiCaprio y la fotografía.
Lo Peor: El personaje de Mark Ruffalo, dejaremos a la duda quien tuvo la cula, si el actor o el guionista.
